Show Notes
Ed starts the show off with a snippet of Porno for Pyro’s, then clears his throat and the band slams into ‘Sonic Reducer’ an unusual opener. Before ‘Even Flow’ Ed says, “That’s right you can’t be drinking until 7:00; I hope you voted instead.” Before ‘Why Go’ Ed says “You’re starting to get it now, you’re actually having a good time. You’ve got to settle security and shit to start expressing yourselves.” ‘Deep’ is dedicated to security. The improv/jam before ‘Alive’ sounds like “Hard to Imagine” with a faster tempo with Ed saying, “This is all for the fucked up adults who don’t think you guys can handle yourself in the crowd.” After ‘Porch’: “I just want to say that you guys turned what could have been a boring bullshit situation into a beautiful thing up front. You all are taking care of one another and that doesn’t happen everywhere. Keep it up, alright? It’s a long day.” During Ice Cube’s set, a very loud version of ‘Hunger Strike’ is heard coming from the parking lot. Actually, it is coming from the Lollapalooza side stage, where Ed and Chris Cornell are jamming to a very lucky (but steadily growing) crowd! They play ‘Hunger Strike,’ ‘Seasons,’ ‘Throw Your Arms Around Me’ and a new song by Chris Cornell (off the forthcoming Soundgarden LP; possibly ‘Like Suicide’) and a few others. Ed gets mobbed by fans as he walks off the stage towards the side gate without any security. Incredible! (Did anyone tape this or see it? Please write us.)
