Show Notes

Pearl Jam played the second night of “Pearl Jam Destination Weekend”, a celebration as part of Pearl Jam’s 20th anniversary. The 2-day weekend event featured main stage acts as well as 8 artists on 2 other side-stages. The second stage saw many collaborations, today. Mike McCready joined Star Anna on “Alone in this Together” and “Wolves in Disguise”. Mike, Jeff Ament and Matt Cameron joined Joseph Arthur for Jeff’s “When the Fire Comes” and Arthur’s “In The Sun”. Ed showed up with Liam Finn for an alt-version of “Habit”, with Glen Hansard for “Falling Slowly”, with John Doe on “Golden State”, with Queens of the Stone Age on “Little Sister”, and The Strokes on “Juicebox”. Glen Hansard, Liam Finn, and Joseph Arthur joined Pearl Jam for “All Night”. “Red Mosquito” featured The Strokes’ Julian Casablancas. Liam Finn joins Ed for “Habit” (note: Liam once said on Pearl Jam Radio that it was his favorite song), and TheNewNo2′s Dhani Harrison plays guitar on his request “Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town”. John Doe also joined Pearl Jam for “The New World”. The first encore saw Ed debut a new song on guitar with the band watching and smiling side-stage. Ed remarked the chorus came from an earlier discussion he had with John Doe, “Never thought we would, never thought we could / So glad we made it / I’m so glad we made it / I’m so glad we made it to when it all got good.” Glen Hansard sang with the band on “Smile”. Ed reflects saying that Pearl Jam “have had different leaders at different times” and a funny exchange ensues between Ed and Stone on the next song. “No Way” and “Public Image” are next on the setlist, but Stone wants to skip “No Way”, while Ed wants to do both. Of course, the crowd cheers for both and both are played. “Spin the Black Circle” is dedicated to all independent record stores, and Mike imitates a record by running many laps around his amps, behind Matt, out Stone’s side and behind Ed. Temple of the Dog performs again, this time with “Hunger Strike”, “Reach Down” (backup singers: Glen Hansard, Joseph Arthur, David Garza, Liam Finn, Eddie Vedder) and bust-outs “Call Me a Dog” and “All Night Thing”. “Rockin’ in the Free World” features all the artists singing backup on two mics (L-R) and is a tremendous, joyous collaboration. “Yellow Ledbetter” is the classic goodbye song, and finishes with Mike performing the Star-Spangled Banner. All smiles as the band takes a bow and closes the two-day festival.

recording notes
First off, the recording is incomplete, my 240 volt battery recharger was not compatable with the US 120 volt system, something I did not realise till I put in the batteries before PJ took to the stage. I had used the 2nd set for Queens of the Stone Age, and The Strokes earlier in the day, if I had not recorded those sets I would have had enough juice to get the whole show, anyways the set that didn’t recharge gave up the ghost during LBC, and by the time I put the other half used set in I’d missed the start of Even Flow, that got me through to the first encore and then died, so that is all I could capture.
Also I was up on the lawn in the fan club section and due to the wind I decided to use the Omni mics over the Cardiods (I taped QOTSA with these and it’s unlistenable) as they pick up the wind alot, the downside is the omnis pick up alot more surrounding noise, other than one total toolbag, the surrounding crowd were not too bad, but there is singing and clapping present in the recording.
