Show Notes

The English Beat’s ‘Save it for Later’ snippet tossed into ‘Better Man’ sound great! Ed pays homage to Josh Ling during a quiet part of ‘State:’ “I recognize you. You were in the front row just the other night. I recognize you … how you doin’?” In a reference to the lunar eclipse, Ed says, “It’s happening right now. I just wanna rip the roof off this place.” He get the crowd to yell three times, laughs and launches into ‘Habit.’ ‘RVM’ features the slow beginning. Toward the end of ‘Alive,’ Dennis Rodman takes the stage and where Ed completes the song. Prior to the ‘Noise of Carpet’ outro, Ed utters the words, “black red yellow.” After ‘Blood,’ Ed retrieves a shirt tossed onstage, saying “Hey look, plaid, grunge; it’s purple.” The Fastbacks help PJ with ‘Leaving Here,’ singing backup vocals and Ed expressing hope that the “boys up front will pay attention to the lyrics.” ‘Patriot’ is performed solo by Ed, accompanying himself on guitar with the rest of the band watching from the side of the stage.

Mix Notes: Sources were synched up in Adobe Audition and mixed. There are a few cuts and several volume changes in the mixer source (see original notes below). These were smoothed out and the Sennheiser source filled in the gaps. Also, if you listen closely to the Nak+AT mixer source alone through headphones, you can hear a very slight echo. The mix covers this up. As both sources are excellent recordings, the sound of the mix came out quite nicely.

(Original Nak+AT) Notes: Direct transfer from my DAT1. No EQ performed, and all fades were already present on the tape. Both Sometimes and Who You Are cut in. I removed some of the dead space (no crowd noise either) during the first encore break. Good recording, but there are a couple of cuts and several level changes. A 4-channel mixer was used on site to record this, and a DAT taper patched in to the mixer via an analog cable. My DAT is a direct digital clone from the DAT taper. I can’t compare the sound quality to the Sennheiser source as I havent listened to it recently. One other thing I cant understand is why there is a cut around the 45 min mark, which leads me to believe that the recorder hooked up to the mixer was analog, but the D10 proII is a digital device I believe. Anyways, enjoy!.

Notes: A mix of this source and the CSB was done by me a few years back
and I never was very happy with it. Of those two sources, this is the better
sounding, especially through headphones.

A couple of small cuts which are tape flips and/or pauses:

– between Red Mosquito and SoLaT
– two short dropouts or pauses at the beginning of Black
– encore break 1
– between Blood and Leaving Here
– encore break 2

As a side note, if anyone has a DAT clone of either of these sources,
please get in touch:

Countryman Isomax II -> Sony TCD-D7
